Voice User Experience/Interface Designer

As a VUI Designer, you will lead, define, and drive spoken language and multimodal interfaces for existing and upcoming Alexa devices and experiences. You must be an innovator, since you will be expected to create solutions for exciting and ambitious ideas for which no interaction paradigm currently exists.

You must be extremely proactive, because you will regularly find yourself in uncharted territory where the key to your success will be to get ahead of the curve. You must be a collaborator, as you will be working side-by-side with product managers and engineers to bring your designs to life. You must be a pragmatic visionary who can translate business needs into leading-edge customer-focused solutions. And most importantly, you must excel at conceptualizing spoken and multimodal experiences in the abstract and driving that vision into solid design deliverables.

We are looking for a designer who can:

  • Produce user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and rigorous user interface specifications Confidently defend design rationale used to create solutions in frequent executive-level design reviews
  • Thrive in a nimble environment while still driving impact across a large organizationFlexibly support multiple programs at once Draw on depth of experience, but initiate UX research and testing efforts when necessary
  • Conduct analyses of real usage data to inform UX optimization efforts
  • Drive root cause analyses to respond to UX performance issues
  • Speak authoritatively on concepts of spoken interaction design in daily iterations with product managers, engineers, and testers
  • Start simple while not losing sight of the long-term vision Communicate clearly and think quickly.
  • Gather requirements, design flows, and write final content for IVR, Virtual Assistants, Chatbots, and omnichannel conversational interfaces
  • Own and contribute to product requirements, functional design, process design (including scenario design, flow mapping), prototyping, testing, model/intent training, defining support procedures.
  • Work with project leadership, project managers, conversational AI architects, developers, UX designers, and product managers to strategize, design, and deliver enterprise conversational AI assets.
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to identify requirements and design voice and digital self-service, marketing and informational assets for diverse use cases across industries and modalities
  • Contribute to and/or lead design sprints, workshops, reviews, and related activities with business, technical, and creative leadership
  • Contribute to and/or lead enterprise content strategy guides and design omnichannel and cross-channel solutions aligned with client organizational content principles (brand voice and tone, legal, compliance, etc.)
  • Design and deliver POCs, demos, and prototypes in alignment with product leadership and sales executives across the firm.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years professional experience as a voice user interface designer
  • Knowledge of conversational dialog systems, machine learning, and cloud computing
  • Hands-on experience with natural language understanding & natural language processing in one or more of the following: Google Dialogflow, IBM Watson, or Microsoft Azure
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; presentation skills (MS Office, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.)
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with mature judgement
  • Ability to work independently and manage small engagements or parts of large engagements.

Preferred Experience

  • 2+ years of experience with Contact Centers, IVR/VUI, and/or conversational AI projects
  • Certification or expertise in at least one of the following platforms:
    • Amazon Lex / Alexa; GCP Dialogflow ES, CX or CCAI; IBM Watson, IPSoft Amelia, Kore.ai, Nuance Nina, Salesforce Einstein
    • Amazon Connect, Genesys, Twilio, NICE inContact, Five9, 8×8, Avaya
  • Enterprise UX writing, content design, or content strategy experience
  • Demonstrable experience in Healthcare, Technology, Media, Telecommunications, Consumer and/or Financial Services & Insurance
  • Ability to work independently and manage small engagements or parts of large engagements.
  • Advanced degree in creative writing, linguistics, or a relevant content-, writing-or design-focused discipline
